Front Crawl Fundamentals for Improvers

Course Requirements

This course is for swimmers/triathletes who can already swim a minimum of 400m front crawl but who want to improve the efficiency of their stroke, their endurance or perhaps have hit a plateau with their speed.

Course Details

Each course will have a maximum of 4 swimmers as this is appropriate for the size of pool we will be learning in and also allows the coach to tailor each session to your individual needs. 

Sessions are suitable for adults (18+) of all ages who currently swim a minimum of 400m front crawl for fitness, triathlon or open water swimming, but want to become more efficient. We will be focusing on learning and imprinting more efficient swim movements to improve your forward momentum and keep your joints safe.

In the first session we will video and analyse each swimmer's current stroke and I will use these to ensure the course is relevant to each swimmer and the areas they need to focus on. I will also video again at the end of the course.  There will also be video feedback as appropriate during the sessions as seeing your swim movements is a really great learning tool. Any useful video clips taken during the sessions will be sent to you afterwards to help support your practice between sessions. You will also receive a summary of what we covered in each session and how to practice in a very focused way. This will help you practice between sessions but also be a reference following the course as you will need to continue to practice to imprint the stroke elements we have worked on.

As I'm also a sports breathing coach, you will gain some insight into your current daily breathing patterns on land and we look at how this might affect your swimming performance, endurance and speed. You will also learn some breathing techniques on land to prepare your body before exercise and also to recover quicker afterwards, and these can be applied to any sport.

To maximise your progress and learning experience during the course, you ideally need to be able to practice twice a week between pool sessions.​​ The pool-based sessions are held in a private 9m pool in Fairwarp, near Uckfield, on Ashdown Forest.
